Michael T. Ikeda, VMD
Dr. Michael Ikeda is the proud owner of Muirlands Animal & Avian Hospital since 1988. He graduated with BA and MA degrees in Biology from UCLA, before completed his VMD degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ikeda has been in the Southern California area for over 25 years and calls Mission Viejo his home. He has saved countless birds working with Pacific Wildlife over the years, but he is most proud of the 4 previous employees fulfilling their dreams of becoming veterinarians through his guidance, one of which is our own Dr. Miwa Kanbe. Dr Ikeda's personal hobbies include golfing, hiking, and traveling especially to visit family in Hawaii.
Miwa Kanbe, DVM
Dr. Kanbe began her career here at Muirlands as an animal assistant in 1995.
After she finished her BS at UCI, she attended vet school at Oklahoma State and rejoined our team as a veterinarian in 2005.
Dr. Kanbe is fluent in Japanese and is experienced in interstate and international travel preparation. In her spare time, Dr. Kanbe and her husband enjoy going to the movies, shopping, watching Angel's baseball games, and traveling.
Dr. Kanbe's family includes: Hideshi her husband, Momo the tabby, and Coco, a Meyer's parrot.
Dr. Fred Brewer IV, DVM, DACVIM (Cardiology)
Dr. Fred Brewer is a board certified (American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine) veterinary cardiologist. He received his veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2009. Following the 4 years at Cornell University, he completed a 1-year general rotating internship at the California Animal Hospital Veterinary Specialty Group in West Los Angeles with Dr. Stephen J. Ettinger.
This was followed by a 3 year Cardiology residency at Cornell University, where he was trained to perform minimally invasive interventional procedures such as pacemakers, balloon valvuloplasties, and PDA occlusions. He has a keen interest in electrophysiology, has extensively studied the canine sinus node, and has published in veterinary medical journals. Additionally, he is experienced in the management of complex arrhythmias and the treatment of refractory heart failure.
Dr. Linda Larsen, DVM, MS, ACVSD
Dr. Linda J. Larsen is a board-certified small animal surgeon and the sole proprietor of Pacific Veterinary Surgery Services. She received her doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Minnesota, college of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She continued her advanced training through a one year rotating medicine and surgery internship at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine; followed by a three year surgery residency and Master of Science (MS) degree program at Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine. Upon completion of her residency Dr. Larsen accepted a one year clinical instructorship position at the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine where she trained residents, interns and students in small animal surgery. She then returned home to California entering private referral practice in 1999 and opening PVSS in November, 2006.
Christine has been a team member since 1994 and hospital manager for the past 11 years.
Ana Team Member since 1997. Ana is a Registered Veterinary Technician and office supervisor who is fluent in both English and Spanish. She has 16 years of experience in avian care, and spent 6 years as an avian breeder. Ana is in charge of our avian husbandry program. Her family includes a flock of 11 parrots. and her Black Lab, Pantera. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
Sheila Team Member Since 1996. Sheila is our Director of First Impressions and our most compassionate client care advocate. Sheila's family includes Jilly, her rescued Fox Terrier Mix, Bud Buds a Citron-Crested Cockatoo and several small birds.
Shawn Team Member since 1995. Shawn is our certified groomer with over 15 years of experience. Shawn is an avid sportsman and enjoys league bowling (he has 7 perfect games of 300), volleyball, and Over-the-Line baseball (world champs 5 times.) When he's not so active he likes to play Sudoku. His family includes his lovely wife Susan and sweet collie Speed.
Nana Team Member since 2015. Nana is our veterinary assistant with years of experience. Nana is fluent in Japanese! "I love animals, they bring joy and happiness. Nana lives with her dog Kai and her three cats Milky, Kona and Lani.
